Espolòn Tequila has today unveiled a limited-edition streetwear collection championing Mexican culture in honor of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

The ‘Calavera collection’ was designed by Saner, a renowned Mexican illustrator, graphic designer and street artist, and reflects his signature style that blends Mayan motifs with graffiti art. It was also inspired by Espolòn’s award-winning portfolio comprising four tequilas.

According to tradition, the ‘calavera’ is a celebration of the human skull, often adorned with marigolds and created from sugar during the Mexican holiday honoring ancestors on November 1. “Dias de los Muertos is a holiday with such rich tradition, and I really wanted the artwork for this collection to bring a piece of Mexico to the US,” Saner said in a statement. “The four designs mix together prehispanic art techniques and feature traditional Mexican symbolism for a streetwear collection that celebrates culture with a modern edge.”

The collection drops today at Stadium Goods’ NYC retail store. The brand is giving away a select number of pieces from the capsule collection on Instagram. For a chance to win, participants aged 21 and over must submit a ‘calavera literaria’ – a written tribute that has its roots in 19th-century Mexico – in the comments today.

“Day of the Dead is one of the most important holidays in Mexico, and our streetwear collection with Stadium Goods and Saner will bring to life the traditions of the holiday in a way that feels fresh and contemporary,” Campari America’s white spirits marketing director Sean Yelle said in a statement. “Our ‘Calavera collection’ was created to shed light on the traditions of the holiday while spotlighting one of Mexico’s most popular artists, Saner. We look forward to bringing the traditions of Mexico to the US in a new way this fall.”
